Live Sound for the Glasgow Phoenix Choir

The Glasgow Phoenix Choir recently graced the sanctuary of Cambuslang Parish Church with their beautiful voices, and it was my pleasure to mix them, and take the opportunity to record their performance.

Fellow Engineer Joe Bradsaw (resident engineer of the Airdrie and Coatbridge Operatic Society) contributed his pair of beautiful Sennheiser MKH 416s, which we used to mic up the front of the choir, while my pair of CM4s captured the lower registers. It was the choirs desire that the microphone setup be as unobtrusive as possible, and while we achieved this it did of course result in an imperfect recording.

However, the sound on the night was excellent, and the recording sounds good regardless – mostly from their excellent singing.
